Happy Solstice. I’m telling you right now - it’s not my favorite. Here in Livermore, California, the sun will rise at 7:19 AM and set at 4:52 PM. The word “solstice” comes from latin, meaning “sun” and “to stand still” which makes very little sense as the sun is doing exactly what it does every day and the alignment of the earth’s orbit + axis create the moment in which the north pole is the furthest away from the sun all year, at exactly 16:28 Coordinated Universal Time today. (8:28 AM PST)
Also - I guess it’s technically the first day of winter? Except that it’s kind of the middle of the cold & dark, so. All things considered, I wonder if we might need to re-name the solstice. I wonder if we might need to re-name everything. I wonder if we might celebrate the shortest day of the year by going back to bed with a nice book. Seems appropriate.
PS. Astrologers agree: December 21st will be marked by changes and delays. And not in a good way. Decisions and travel should not be undertaken today. Starting something new is not advised. That sounds like “go back to bed with a nice book” to me.
